Return to Work Assessment
At Solution Focused Psychology over the years we have worked with many insurance companies including Canada Life, Manulife, Alberta Blue Cross, The Worker's Compensation Board, Veteran Affairs, Sun life and other agencies to be able to help their clients return to work. There can be many reasons as to why someone is off of work. Our therapist will work with a multi-disciplinary team such as the client, the clients physician, psychiatrist, occupational therapist and the case manager of the insurance company if that is where they have been referred from.
Our therapists can be instrumental in the process of returning a client back to the workplace after an injury or illness. Initially, the therapist will do a background intake to help understand the job's demands, the reason they are off of work, as well as review all information received from the referral source. A series of testing will be completed with the client to better understand their limitations, fears or sometimes coping and/or social skills needed to best serve them in the workplace environment and ensure a safe and progressive re=entry to work.
The therapist will engage in different modalities to be able to best help the client. Such modalities could include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Psychoeducation, as well as Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). The therapist and client will work closely to come up with the best treatment plan.
Sometimes the referral source will only require the client to attend counselling regularly for a period of time, and then send a progress report on recommendations. Then some referral sources will want testing to be completed. Each referral source can have a variety of different expectations. We will work closely with the referral source to ensure we are completing what is expected.
